The US markets finished narrowly
mixed in lacklustre trading, but the Dow posted a fresh closing high, as
investors weighed a handful of upbeat earnings against a weak regional factory
report. The CBOE volatility index dipped near 12.
The Dow Jones Industrial
Average rose 22.19 points, or 0.14 percent, to end at 15,567.74. The Standard
& Poor’s 500 Index fell 3.14 points, or 0.19 percent, to 1,692.39.
The Nasdaq Composite Index dropped 21.11 points, or 0.59 percent, to
close at 3,579.27.
