Industries’ copper smelter unit has resumed operations after the National Green
Tribunal’s expert panel gave a green signal. The copper smelter unit was shut
down over two months ago, after state-run Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board
(TNPCB) ordered the closure of the unit, due to sulphur dioxide allegedly
leaked from the plant on March 23 and affected a large number of residents of
Tuticorin.
