2009 in the wake of the credit crisis and recession. Shares picked up
strength late in the day on Friday, with the S&P 500 rising 1
percent not long before the closing bell.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 121.18 points, or 0.80 percent, to close at a record 15,354.40. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index rose 17 points, or 1.03 percent, to end at a record 1,667.47. The Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 33.72 points, or 0.97 percent, to finish at 3,498.97 – its highest close since October 2000.
